How to Copy Canvas Courses

Copying course content in Canvas is quick and easy. Please note that you only have access to copy content from current or previous courses in which you were enrolled as a Teacher.

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to the course you wish to have content copied into.
  2. Click Settings on the bottom left menu.
  3. Click Import Course Content (this menu item will either be on the right or bottom, depending on the size of your browser window).

  4. In the Content Type drop-down menu, select the Copy a Canvas Course option.

  5. In the Search for a course drop-down menu, select the course you would like to access. Courses are ordered alphabetically by most recent term. You can also choose to include completed courses by selecting the completed courses checkbox.
    Alternatively, you can search for a course by name. Enter the name in the Course Name field. Click the name of the course when it appears.

  6. Make selections for Content and Options. Visit these Canvas Community guides for more information on selecting specific content or adjusting due dates.

  7. Click Import. Current Jobs will be displayed and show the status of your import. Your job start running shortly. Copying content will take anywhere from a few seconds to a few minutes, depending on the size of the course.
