Research-Informed Teaching Faculty Community

Tuesday, October 4, 2022 - 12:00pm to 1:00pm
Salazar 1060 or Zoom

The Research-Informed Teaching faculty community is for faculty who are interested in improving student learning by applying pedagogical research to their own teaching. Members will gather monthly to discuss 1 research article on how teaching practices impact student learning outcomes and how that article's insights could be applied at SSU. Members will also be invited to share their own experiences applying these and other student-focused interventions in their classes. Join in-person or via Zoom.

For Fall 2022, our focus is on supporting first-generation students. For October, our article is "Let’s Chat: Chatbot Nudging for Improved Course Performance," by Meyer et al., published in EdWorkingPapers in 2022. This article looks at how timed reminders to students can potentially have an outsized effect on first-gen learners. Please try to read the article in advance so that you are prepared to discuss its conclusions!
