We talk a lot about the need for accessibility, but what is that, really? It’s a radical commitment to make our courses as inclusive as possible, both technically (i.e., complying with ADA Title II standards) and structurally (e.g., supporting neurodiverse learners). If that sounds like the kind of course you want to teach, join us for a one-day workshop (either in-person or via Zoom) in which we’ll review the most common obstacles that prevent learners from succeeding in courses and introduce you to both tools that you can use to fix those problems, and strategies that you can use to prevent them from occurring in the first place.
Participants can attend the workshop in-person or via Zoom. We plan to run two cohorts of the faculty learning community, one in March 2026 and the second in June 2026. Any faculty member may participate in the program, but faculty who meet the following requirements are also eligible for a $300 stipend:
Identify a current course for which they wish to improve the accessibility. For the March cohort, that course must be an active Spring 26 course, and for the June cohort, that course must be a scheduled Fall 26 course.
Attend and participate in the entire workshop
Submit a slide deck, using the format provided during the workshop, showing accessibility improvements implemented in the selected course as a result of the workshop
Only Unit 3 faculty members with an active teaching appointment in Spring 2026 are eligible to be considered for a stipend during the March cohort; and only Unit 3 faculty members with an active teaching appointment in Fall 2026 are eligible to be considered for a stipend during the June cohort. Per CALPERs, Retired Annuitants (RAs) and FERP faculty are not eligible to receive stipends. Faculty are limited to a maximum of $10,000 in stipends for faculty training and professional development per fiscal year. Faculty cannot accept an offer for a stipend that will cause them to exceed this $10,000 annual limit.
If you want to participate, please RSVP and we'll be in touch!
