Assignment Redesign in the Age of AI

Generative AI doesn’t necessarily mean redesigning your entire course. Sometimes the most useful place to start is identifying the assignments where AI has changed what students can do and deciding whether those assignments need to change.

In this hands-on workshop, CTET will introduce a framework for examining the relationship between your learning outcomes, assignments, and the potential disruption of generative AI. Faculty will select an existing assignment, consider its level of AI disruption, and identify manageable changes that can be implemented early in the semester. This approach comes from a larger course-redesign process, which asks faculty to begin with their own disciplinary expertise and determine whether AI calls for changes to an assignment, a learning outcome, or both.

We’ll also address syllabus and AI policy languages via a tool developed from our Integrity in the Age of AI workshop materials. Faculty can use it to think through AI policies, clarify expectations for students, and begin revising course and assignment language.

Bring an assignment or syllabus you’d like to work on. You should leave with at least one concrete revision you can put into practice this semester.
