JMP

JMP Software is used by SSU’s Biology department for statistical analysis and instruction.

Accessibility

Sonoma State University is committed to instructional materials accessibility. In support of this, faculty should be aware of the following accessibility limitations of the JMP software:

  • 1.1.1 Non-text Content: Not Supported. Visualizations produced in this software are not readable by screen readers.

  • 2.1.1 Keyboard: Keyboard focus can become lost after some windows are maximized. Creating and manipulating visualizations is not possible using the keyboard only. The main toolbar is not reachable through keyboard navigation.

  • 2.1.2 No Keyboard Trap: There are methods to get keyboard focus out of all areas of the software. However, the user may find some keyboard tab traps.

  • 2.4.3 Focus Order: Focus can be lost or travel in the wrong order in some areas.

  • 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value: Screen readers are usable in some portions of the software. However, the bulk of the software may be difficult to use for a screen reader user.

  • 301.1 Without Vision: Screen reader users will not be able to successfully use most areas of the software.

  • 302.7 Limited Manipulation: Not Supported. See 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and 2.4.3 for details.

  • 302.8 Limited Reach and Strength: Not Supported. See 2.1.1, 2.1.2, and 2.4.3 for detail

Given these limitations, faculty who choose to use this software in their courses are legally responsible to create an equally effective alternative assignment that does not use the inaccessible software, as an option for all of the students. If they have any questions about how to do that, they can consult either CTET by emailing ctet@sonoma.edu, or they can consult directly with SSU Disability Services for Students.
