AV Standards for Classrooms and other AV-Equipped Spaces

University Conference Room

Standard university conference rooms have:

  • 55 inch LCD display
  • HDMI wall plate
  • A wall-mounted AV system controller for adjusting volume and turning the LCD display on or off.

Type 1 Classroom

Type 1 classrooms are generally small.  AV Hardware is located in a ceiling enclosure. The AV package includes:

  • Video projection
  • Amplified audio
  • Wired laptop connectivity to the AV system
  • Wireless laptop connectivity to the AV system
  • An AV system controller for selecting sources, adjusting volume, and turning the projector on or off.
  • Wireless keyboard and mouse
  • (where possible) a micro form factor Windows computer

Type 1B Computer Lab - Computer Lab Deployment

SSU computer labs contain a variant of the Type 1 system. The Type 1B system adds:

  • Height adjustable instructor table
  • All-in-one Windows computer
  • Wired keyboard and mouse

The Type 1B system subtracts:

  • Micro form factor Windows computer
  • Wireless keyboard and mouse

Type 1C Conference Room - BYOD Video Conference Space

Some newer SSU conference rooms contain a variant of the Type 1 system. The Type 1C system adds:

  • PTZ camera with 4 pre-set angles
  • Ceiling microphones

The Type 1C system subtracts:

  • Computers
  • Keyboards/mice

These spaces are BYOD (laptop) and cables (HDMI and Mini USB)

Type 2 Classroom - Existing Layout Deployment

Type 2 classrooms are medium or large rooms.  AV Hardware is installed in casework or a wall-mounted equipment rack. The AV package includes:

  • Video projection
  • Amplified audio
  • Wired laptop connectivity to the AV system
  • Wireless laptop connectivity to the AV system
  • Blu-Ray player
  • An AV system controller for selecting sources, adjusting volume, and turning the projector on or off.
  • All-in-one Windows computer
  • Wireless keyboard and mouse
  • Wireless instructor microphone for in-room voice amplification (no connection to Zoom)

Type 3 Classroom - Full Feature Deployment

Type 3 classrooms are medium to large rooms. AV Hardware is installed in a free standing equipment rack. The Type 3 classroom AV stack is based on the Type 2 standard and adds:

  • Height-adjustable instructor table
  • Wired keyboard and mouse
  • Document camera

Type 3H Classroom w/ Hyflex Capability 

A few Type 3 rooms have Hyflex capability. Type 3H rooms add:

  • Instructor facing PTZ camera
  • Student facing PTZ camera
  • Ceiling microphones
  • HDMI to USB scaling bridge connecting cameras and microphones to the classroom computer
  • Table top touch panel for camera control

These spaces are BYOD (laptop) and cable (HDMI)
