Classroom Technology

SSU's classrooms are equipped with technology such as data projection systems, speakers, video playback devices, and document cameras. Faculty can use these tools to present instructional materials to their students or allow their students to present in class.

Best Practices

  • We always encourage you to test out your classroom before you teach in it each term. That way, if any equipment has changed or been moved, you won't see that for the first time during your class.
  • If you plan to connect your laptop to the projection system, we provide video adapters for most computers. However, we still encourage you to bring your own, just in case.

Urgent Support

Please call CTET at (707) 664-2659 for urgent requests during class time. The CTET team can do immediate troubleshooting with you over the phone, and if that doesn't work, we will send a staff member to investigate the issue during a scheduled class time, staffing permitting.

CTET supports classroom technology on a “best-effort” basis. Based on our current resources, that means:

  • During our business hours (M-F, 8AM-5PM), our classroom tech team will prioritize restoring classroom technology functionality to enable classes to continue. We will send a technician as soon as possible to diagnose and address issues that cannot be easily resolved over the phone. For problems that occur outside of business hours, we will wait to address that problem until our business hours.

  • CTET does not provide support outside of our business hours. If we cannot resolve an issue with the built-in equipment during our business hours and before the next scheduled class in that room, we may deliver a projector cart “rover” to the affected room as a short-term solution, until we can again access that room during business hours. We will also alert affected faculty (that is, faculty who are scheduled to use that room in the near future) to the problem by email.

  • We do not guarantee any repair timeline in advance for built-in classroom technology, because staff levels and supply chain issues make it impossible to predict this without knowing the issue. When we investigate any particular issue, then we will be able to give a repair timeline estimate.

  • If we cannot replicate an issue reported by a faculty member, then we will invite the faculty member to schedule a one-on-one consultation with a member of our team to try to replicate the issue. If we don’t receive such a request or a response from that faculty member, we will consider the issue resolved.

  • CTET’s official responsibility is for general assignment classrooms. For the time being, we will provide support to faculty and staff in department-owned classrooms and meeting spaces upon request to the best of our ability; and we will always prioritize instructional needs.

Non-Urgent Support

CTET can schedule individual consultations and answer general questions via email at ctet@sonoma.edu or by completing our Get Help Form.

Student Support

CTET can only support faculty with classroom technology.  Individual students and student groups are not eligible for support through CTET. If students encounter any issues using the classroom technology hardware for presentations or the like, we encourage faculty to look at the issue with the student, and if the issue cannot be resolved independently, the faculty may submit a help request on the student's behalf.
