Zoom

Zoom is SSU's teleconferencing and video chat solution. Faculty can use Zoom to join and host virtual class sessions and meetings, and to record instructional videos for their students.

Best Practices

In order to get the most value from Zoom, we encourage you to keep the following best practices in mind:

  • Make sure that you log into the Zoom application on your computer using your SSU user account. Otherwise, you may not have Host privileges in your own meetings. Even if you access your Zoom meeting from your SSU login panel, it is still possible for the Zoom application on your computer or device to be logged in as someone else.
  • Zoom cloud recordings are automatically deleted after 120 days. If you plan to use Zoom to record reusable materials, make sure to download those materials from Zoom before they expire.
  • If you aren't familiar with Zoom and are worried about your ability to manage an upcoming planned Zoom meeting, the easiest way to become comfortable is to practice. Convince a colleague, friend, or relative to join you in a Zoom meeting and practice all of the pieces (breakout rooms, shutting off microphones, etc.) that you think you might need. Or, join the same meeting from a second device (just don't connect to the audio on the second device, or you'll have feedback), and you can see and test the experience yourself.

Resources

Get Support

If your question isn’t answered by the above resources, we encourage you to visit CTET either in person or via Zoom, submit a help request, or just email us. We are happy to do a 1-on-1 training or support session with you. You can find our current business hours and contact information, including our Zoom link, on our Contact Us page.

You can also contact SSU's IT Help Desk for assistance using Zoom.

Student Support

CTET only supports faculty, not students. If your students report any issues to you, we would encourage you to look at the issue with them and, once you've documented it, report it to us. Then we can figure out the cause of the problem.

If your students need direct support, they can contact SSU's IT Help desk for technology support, Monday through Friday, 8AM to 5PM.
